Quiver of the Bow

May the apperception of fragile beauty
Lead us to the things of eternity.
And help to bridge the gap
Between within and without.
And what we do for survival
With what is lost in the struggle.

May the sweet quiver of the bow
Lead us beyond what we can and cannot know
And deliver us from our reliance on beliefs
That strangle our capacity for experience.

And though the Meek
May inherit the earth
Why would they want it?
For would they not then
Become their opposite?

Perhaps it was a mistranslation
And someone was quite mistaken
Or is this but a first-draft earth
And we are waitin’ to be fully birthed?

Then again perhaps they’re already here
Buried under the layers of instinct and fear
In the things we’ve forgotten how to hear
In the deepest recessions of the Mind
In the delicate whispers of a wind chime
Where distinctions of I and Time
Gently dissolve like snowflakes
Fallin’ on a warm window pane

May we follow the quiver of the bow
And walk on the stringed soul
Balancin' on a tightrope gap
Where within meets without--
Two old lovers made one by the dance
Two old lovers claimin’ their inheritance.

Starved for Love

Starved for love
I hold the egg in my hand
And love my neighbor as myself
I crack
It breaks
It runs
All over my plate.
Starved for love
I have to eat
The shell
that flickers on the screen
from a broken projector
where I find validation
and love me as if I were myself.
I hold you in my arms
I love you as if you were myself
You crack
I break
It runs
All over my plate.
We have to eat
And so devour each other.
Our shells flickerin' on the screen
From a broken projector
Where we love as if we were ourselves.
Starved for love
A million hens do lay
A million eggs
That take flight each day
on the run from
those cracked and broken
who starved for love
worship false images
flickerin' from broken projectors
where we love others
as if they were ourselves.

Peace At Any Cost

(revised on the eve of...)

Oh, those poor dinosaurs
Didn't have what it takes to endure
Yeah, they had no idea what it was worth
And therefore got what they deserved.
The ultimate test of superiority is survival.
A twinkle and a glint and a high-fiver.

And she nagged on and on
In that harsh belittling tone
Til finally he took out his gun
And sent her on home.
Now she knows who's boss
Searchin' for peace at any cost.

And he attacked her on and on
With that harsh belligerent tone
And she finally took the frying pan
And sent him on.
Real deadpan.
Now he knows who's boss
Lookin' for peace at any cost.

And then feeling guilty
And uncomfortable with the silence.
And lonesome oh so lonesome
For that was all they'd ever known.
They took their own lives--
To make amends for the loss
And find Peace at any cost.

And Peace at any cost
Is what the Fools say
As they lay themselves down
And forever stay that way.
And it's not us bein' lost
Searchin' for Peace at any cost

And some of us laugh and smirk and even weep
At those who turn the other cheek
For they know not how the world beats.
And it's no matter anyway--
Just non-negotiable soul escapin'.
From this worldly albatross
Lookin' for Peace at any cost.

And Peace at any cost
Is what the wise men say
And that's their battlecry
And nothing gets in their way.
Not bodies or ideas anyway.
And it's only the poor and evil bein' lost
And a righteous search for Peace at any Cost.

And let us get behind such bravery
And those willing to kill and die
For the world is always ready
For a piece of this martyr pie.
And it's no matter anyway--
Just excess population escapin'.
And it's not us being lost--
Searchin' for Peace at any cost.

And onward they march through the fire
Bombin' and killin'--
The world a funeral pyre
Bodies and buildings
Stacked to the sky.
And now everyone dead.
Everyone gone.
A natural conclusion.
To Peace at any cost.

And we lost shades gather round
To gaze at the two new arrivals
Who've just come down
We open our cartoon mouths
But there comes no sound
Only interminable echoes
That grow and grow
And we may never know....

But the cockroaches do.
As they twinkle and glint.
And discuss anthropology.
And give each other high-fives
Cause they're the last to survive.
And at least they've got it.
Peace at any cost.
